Girls Golf: Dakota's Monteith Keeps Rising Charts

Marissa Monteith, a junior at Macomb Dakota, was given an ultimatum by her parents in eighth grade: if she quit softball, she had to play another school sport.

"My grandpa lives on a golf course and I've played golf for fun growing up. I guess I was pretty good at it, but never really took it seriously,"

Monteith recalled, adding that she never took golf seriously until high school. She tried out for the golf team, and despite the coach not knowing her at first, she persevered.

"My parents said there was no way I would just sit around after school and not do anything,"

she added. Monteith's determination and natural talent have contributed to her rising success in golf.
